The reference book “Extended Views – Social and Economic Perspectives on the Covid-19 Pandemic” by Ingeborg Henzler, Henning Hues, Sandra Sonnleitner and Uta Wilkens was published on December 4, 2023.

With the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, medical and specifically virological topics have been the focus of public and scientific interest since 2020. Only gradually did fields of social science research emerge that looked at the pandemic, the lockdown and other accompanying circumstances from the perspective of the social and economic consequences of the crisis.

Since the first lockdown in March 2020, the Dr. Hans Riegel Foundation, Bonn, and the Kaiserschild Foundation, Vienna, have initiated research projects by young scientists who have taken an innovative methodological and interdisciplinary approach to the effects of the pandemic and how to combat it from an economic and social science perspective. These studies are characterized by the different research fields and questions as well as by empirically dense and in some cases methodologically innovative data that was generated and evaluated in the “social epicentre of the crisis”. They show a great temporal immediacy, which in the form of this publication enables a scientific contemporary document and contributes to an expanded retrospective understanding of the corona pandemic.
