The Chair of Work, Human Resources and Leadership looks back on the Global young-faculty-industry symposium for responsible AI, which took place on January 30 at the ZESS in Bochum and was also digitally accessible to the global audience. The symposium was an initiative of the international project NET-hUmAIN and the regional competence center HUMAINE.

The symposium focused on the question of how the responsible use of AI can function globally and to what extent it can also have a positive influence on sustainable development with its ecological, social and economic facets. Perspectives from research and practice were presented in equal measure.

Young researchers gave four interesting presentations on their research topics, including ethical leadership (Sophie Berretta), AI-based knowledge systems (Christian Cost-Reyes), global participation in the workplace (Alexander Ranft) and fairness of generative AI tools (Dr. Anja Gerlmaier & Paul-Fiete Kramer).

In two exciting presentations from the field, Dr. Silvana Hinsen (EY Consulting) and Dr. Mahdie Kabarsie (SNAP GmbH) examined the relationship between technical possibilities and global impact.

In addition, Prof. Emma Ruttkamp-Bloem offered a philosophical perspective on AI ethics and Prof. Dr. Uta Wilkens explained in an interview with moderator Dr. Valentin Langholf how scientific findings on responsible AI can be transferred into practice.

We would like to thank all contributors for enriching the symposium with their perspectives and exciting presentations.
