AI in medical technology: from hype to application
Our last Future Lab focused on the crucial question: How can AI really be used in everyday clinical practice? Our joint event with the neuroMIT platform was dedicated to this question. The aim was to bring together experts from research, clinics and industry and discuss concrete paths from the vision to the medical product.Impulses from research, clinics and industryThe discussion was stimulated by exciting contributions from our guests:
Prof. Dr. Jörg Wellmer (Knappschaft Kliniken University Hospital Bochum) presented current AI research and development projects and provided insights into a pilot project of the neuroMIT platform.
Julia de Jong (Gleamer) reported on the market launch of AI-supported diagnostic solutions and impressively demonstrated the potential of upcoming medical products.
Prof. Dr. med. Carsten Lukas (Katholisches Klinikum Bochum) took the participants into his everyday clinical work and described the practical use of AI in healthcare.
The panel was complemented by Stefan Dowiasch, who contributed the regulatory perspective – a key factor for the successful integration of AI into regular medical operations.
ConclusionThe contributions and discussions made it clear:
- AI can change everyday clinical practice in the long term – but the path to practical application is challenging.
- Practical applications and a clear regulatory framework are crucial for innovations to reach the healthcare sector.
- The exchange between research, clinics and industry is a key element in overcoming obstacles and exploiting opportunities.
As HUMAINE, we want to build precisely these bridges: bring science and practice together, make potential visible and promote dialog
